Induction programs serve as critical pathways for educators as they enter the profession. The role of an effective instructional leader, such as principal, assistant principal, director, supervisor and teacher leader constitutes a valuable human resource for schools as they induct new members into the profession. "Fullan (2001) stated that sustained success is never just one special event, meeting, or activity; rather, it is a journey of recursive decisions and actions." Numerous studies indicate that the challenges faced by new educators need to be supported by professional learning to support and foster skill acquisition for all instructional leaders.

Description:

Pathways to Reducing Chronic Absenteeism Forum

Sep. 30, 2020; 9 am - 3 pm at FEA

Fee: $149

Chronic Absenteeism (missing more than 10% of school days, for any reason) can have a profound and lasting impact on students' economic and social development. It erodes the positive benefits of Pre-K, leads to poor reading skills, higher dropout rates and lower earning across a lifetime. Leadership can make a difference. Analyzing data, identifying root causes and building a culture that promotes consistent school attendance are key steps in addressing this silent problem. Join leaders in philanthropy, education and social services to learn how a grant-funded initiative in Mercer County is addressing the educational and social development of students in four large school districts while reducing chronic absenteeism rates.

The Connected Action Roadmap (CAR) provides a sustainable process for professional learning communities (PLCs) to collaboratively and effectively implement high quality, standards-aligned instruction and assessment. Supported by the NJ DOE and the leading educational organizations across the state.
