This will include a review of legal protections related to mental health that are available under state and federal law, recent guidance from the CDC, U.S. Department of Education and New Jersey Department of Education, and model protocols and tools for school districts to proactively plan for and support students and their families. Participants will also learn about the protocols that should be in place to address the mental health needs of staff members in light of the global pandemic and its aftermath.

In this workshop, participants will learn about new legislation at the state & federal level intended to address COVID-19 and impacting employee rights, incl. issues related to reasonable accommodations for personnel considered at-risk, expanded rights to approved leave, and potential issues related to worker’s comp. In addition, participants will learn about the rights of staff to express their views on issues of social justice and 1st Amendment rights, evolving stds for engaging in progressive supervision and key principles for addressing employee misconduct during this challenging period.
