Backed by research, (including Brene Brown, Cheryl Sandberg, Carol Dweck, and Lolly Daskal) discovering, embracing, and practicing the leadership style that works best for female leaders yields positive results for schools, communities, and personal lives. This workshop will focus on hands-on learning and strategies that can be utilized the very next day. It will provide participants the opportunity to be understood as leaders, maximize strengths and grow in a multitude of areas to be the best instructional leader to your school/district.

Family engagement describes what families do at home and in the community to support their children’s learning and development. It also encompasses the shared partnership and responsibility between home and school. Participants will begin to explore the following four objectives: 

- the relationship between family engagement and improved school/student outcomes from birth through high school;

- the research supporting the importance of engaging families;

- the difference between participation and engagement across different environments (e.g., rural, urban, and suburban) and communities (e.g., historically under resourced communities); and

- the additional benefits family engagement brings to parents, educators, and communities.

You've Got This! Developing Text Dependent Questions (TDQ) Which Support Deep Levels of Discussion

Target Audience: Grades K-5 and 6-12

Participants will:

- Understand how DOK correlates to text dependent question development

- Learn how a “think- aloud strategy“supports understanding complex text

- Explore and create a series of text-dependent questions based on texts which you will bring to the workshop

- Engage in several protocols which support deep levels of discussion

- Collaborate with others to develop 4 levels of TDQ using lyrics to music

- Skim and read the most recent and best award-winning children's literature of 2019. Over 30 books will be at the workshop for teachers to engage in dialogue.

This work is based on the work of Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey, TDQ, and Making Learning Visible.
