In this workshop, participants will gain knowledge of the most current, highly rated, and authentic literature titles and topics in grades K-12. Participants will learn how to: use these texts to engage all learners, support teachers in providing multi-modal formats in reading, motivate reluctant readers, and have a discussion around how providing equity through authentic literature inspires students to create new contexts for learning to take place. Authentic literature honors students' voices and the choices they make in their reading lives. This workshop is based on using the most current and highly rated K-12 literature titles in order to focus on student equity, as well as multi-modal formats in reading, and ways to provide students with voice and choice in their reading.

Led by a former special education teacher and state education official as well as a former teacher and building administrator, this session will explore the areas of data use.

Description: *Historically Underserved Students Taking Higher Mathematics in the Middle School Date: Nov. 19, 2019. Time: 9am - 3pm. Location: FEA Conference Center. Presenter: George Guy, Principal, Cherry Hill Schools. Target Audience: K-12 Administrators and Teacher-Leaders. Fee: $149.00. This session will explore the use of data, scheduling, professional development, access and equity frameworks, and cultural proficiency in moving historically underserved Grade 6 math students into a higher Grade 7 math class. This acceleration model includes professional development supports for Grade 7 math teachers, scheduling changes that support pre-teaching, interventions, enrichment, and counseling supports for students and parents. This work in the Cherry Hill schools is ongoing. The pilot is now at all three middle schools and it is hoped that the district will graduate more underserved students from Grade 8 who have taken Algebra and who are on their way to Calculus in high school.
