LEGAL ONE's "The Path Forward on Student Mental Health" series
The global pandemic has exacerbated the mental health needs of thousands of students, grades preK - 12, and caused mental health harm to thousands of other students for the first time. With the vast majority of students expected to return to full-time in-person instruction in the Fall, our schools must be ready to address this looming crisis. Our new series, The Path Forward on Student Mental Health, will equip you to meet this challenge. The series includes a new online course on Establishing Student Mental Health Protocols and 3 days of live, virtual professional learning. As a result of this series, participants will have a clear understanding of their legal duty of care and obligations related to addressing student mental health needs that have been caused or exacerbated by the pandemic and other recent events, and learn how to identify and respond to students at risk of imminent harm to self or others, including potential suicidal ideation, learn how to work with parents, healthcare providers and students on reentry to the school environment, and gain an understanding of the connection between student mental health needs and substance use, and the protocols that should be in place to identify students and address their needs.
